Hi — I’m Lisa.
I’m a mom writing about alcohol harm in Canada, informed by lived experience.
One of my adult children struggles with alcohol use disorder, and I’ve seen firsthand how serious — and often misunderstood — alcohol-related harm can be. Not just for the person drinking, but for the people who love them.
I’m careful about what I share. My goal is not to expose anyone or tell someone else’s story. This space exists to talk about what I’ve learned, what I’ve experienced as a parent, and what I believe we’re getting wrong as a society.
What I’ve come to understand is this:
Alcohol is treated very differently from other substances, even as the evidence around harm — including cancer risk and dependency — becomes clearer. Most people still don’t fully understand the risks, and policy hasn’t caught up.
I’m not here as an expert or an organization.
Just a mom who has lived this, trying to be part of a more honest conversation.
